Touring with the Tooth Fairy
WHY For Good is proud to support Delta Dental of Washington as a strategic partner toward its vision for a cavity-free Washington with the conception, development and implementation of The Tooth Fairy Experience. The free K-2 statewide youth dental health education program makes dental health fun and interactive, featuring three unique lesson plans – each with a corresponding storybook – with Tooth Fairy-led presentations offered both in-person and virtually, as well as material, activity sheets, and video downloads for teacher-led presentations. Following each presentation, students receive a free dental health kit including a toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, dental floss, a two-minute timer, and a brushing & flossing chart.
Launched in 2019, The Tooth Fairy Experience -- presented in English, Spanish and American Sign Language by a diverse team of professional actors portraying the Tooth Fairy – aims to improve dental health habits at an early age, reduce the incidence of tooth decay, and increase the number of kids who regularly visit the dentist with a focus on rural and medically underserved communities – including Title I and tribal schools – where the need is the greatest. All materials for the program – a partnership between Delta Dental, Arcora Foundation, School Nurse Organization of Washington, and Washington State Dental Association – are reviewed by dentists, teachers, school nurses, and students.
Reaching nearly 100,000 kids to date, the award-winning program also offers online resources for educators, parents, and dental providers, as well as the Tooth Fairy’s very own website and blog (TheToothFairyExperience.com), quarterly e-newsletter, @ToothFairyWA social media channels, letters from the Tooth Fairy, and a Tooth Fairy Hotline.
The Tooth Fairy Experience also partners with major league sports teams in the state to further their mutual goals for good nutrition and healthy active lifestyles. Strategic partnerships with the Seattle Kraken and the Seattle Storm have opened opportunities to not only join forces with the teams, but with Kraken mascot Buoy and Storm mascot Doppler for year-round education and fun for kids.

“This was a fantastic experience! Since we’re a virtual school, my students don’t always get the assemblies, fun visitors, etc. that you would have in a brick and mortar classroom — so having the Tooth Fairy come to kindergarten was VERY exciting for them. Our Tooth Fairy was so engaging and fun. The kids loved it. We will definitely do this every year. Thank you!”
